Grand Palace Hotel

The room wasn’t ready when we arrived, although we’d told reception our arrival time. When staff escorted us there, they knocked before entering, which made us wonder if they were unsure the room was assigned to us. The key card didn’t work, so we waited outside for a long time. Someone eventually opened the door with a master key but left us with the faulty card instead of replacing it. Later, we’d handed it in for replacement before dinner, but the staff on our return didn’t seem to know and questioned whether we’d handed it over. Communication between shifts was poor. We also had problems at check-in. We’d called at noon about early check-in and were told it wasn’t possible, which we understand depends on availability. We arrived at 2 p.m. as instructed, but reception didn’t properly check the booking and asked for full payment even though we’d already paid half through Kpay. We had to prompt them to look again. The room was disappointing too. The bed wasn’t made up properly, and the decorative pillows and blanket shown in the promotional photos were stuffed in the wardrobe. That made us wonder if it had been cleaned after the previous guest. The staff member didn’t explain the facilities, and their manner felt disrespectful and unwelcoming. We chose the hotel after comparing reviews and services, but our stay on the 16th-17th fell well short of what we expected. I hope these problems are addressed for future guests.

There’s plenty of parking, though the hotel is tucked down an alley and far from the city. If you pay by mobile, including KBZ Pay or CB Pay, they add 5%. Breakfast has lots of choices and was good. The rooms are big, with soft mattresses, and food, mostly Chinese, can be ordered until 11 p.m. Sometimes there was no hot water while I was showering.

The rooms are comfortable, but mosquitoes bite. Breakfast isn’t very convenient to have through room service. Complimentary items only show up occasionally, and sometimes they don’t even provide a comb.

The room had a bad smell and wasn’t properly clean. The hotel is very old and dirty, and the pillows, sheets, bolsters, and blanket were all in poor condition. I’d never recommend it.
