Sule Sapphire Inn Yangon

We were comfortable for our two nights in December 2019, and really enjoyed the stay. The hotel was clean and had the facilities we expected. Its location in the heart of Yangon was a highlight, though it could get a little noisy during the day, possibly because there was a school across the road. My mother and I stayed in a street-facing Deluxe twin room. The people running the hotel were kind and helpful. The stairs are steep, but they always carried our bags, called taxis when we needed them, and negotiated fares for us. They told us the agreed price and said not to pay more.

The location was good, which I was happy about. I usually dislike getting a ground-floor room, but mine was around the corner and turned out to be fine. The manager made an effort to help, and I appreciated that. I didn’t quite understand how the laundry worked, so check the price if you use it. I was quoted 6,000 for under 1.5 kilos. I said that seemed very high for Yangon, and the manager agreed to do it for 2,000, which felt much more reasonable.

The room was bright, clean, and quiet, and the hotel is very central, about a 3-minute walk from Sule pagoda. I had a great time at Sule Salphire. The staff and management were polite and friendly, and took good care of me when I was sick. They helped me a lot. I’d definitely recommend it.

I really can’t recommend this place. When we checked out, they tried to charge us using their own exchange rate. The bed was disgusting, with three pieces of hair and quite a few dirty marks on the blanket, and I caught five mosquitoes. There was also a constant smell of old, cold smoke in our room, as if people had smoked there.
