Yangon International Hotel

The sitting plan and deco were lovely, and the place was clean with good service. We came for Music box last weekend, and the sound was excellent. Worth a try...

The hotel itself looks very old and could be a lot better, though the location is very great. It's run down and Japanese managed, with cafes, bars, a spa, and a nightclub surrounding it. Japanese tourists seem to enjoy it, though.

There are shops in the compound, which look like they're rented out by the hotel for income. The hotel also has a rooftop bar and massage. It's easy to reach major places, with People Park and Shwedagon pagoda nearby, but the service is comparatively poor next to most three star hotels in town.

The rooftop Sky Bar is the main reason to check this place out. It's huge, spread over multiple storeys, with open and closed terraces and great views across the city and Shwedagon pagoda. This may be the closest unobstructed view of it. There's beer on tap and in bottles, plus snacks, but skip the burgers. Even on a Friday evening it was relatively empty, and the space is so large it would be hard to crowd. It's also near other evening spots, so it's worth a visit. The hotel was Yangon’s first international one, and its interior has an old-fashioned glamour to it. Definitely worth the stay.
