Breakfast has reasonable choices, including some for vegetarians, and the beds are comfortable. The rooms were clean too. It used to be a prestigious Hotel, but these days it’s a good middle class option. The location is great.

The location is hard to beat, right in the capital’s center, but I’ve had better hotels elsewhere in the world for this money. This place feels very old, maybe around 50 years old, and like an old Soviet era building. The floor creaks wherever I step, the mattress is too soft, and the bathroom is strange and smelly. Something keeps coming out of the faucet water. I also heard a rumor about women knocking on doors at night for money. Please don’t open the door to anyone at night.

The open air car parking was a nice bonus, but after 7 nights the stay felt very average. My bath hadn’t been cleaned and there was hair in the plug, and the room wasn’t restocked daily. I asked reception for help making an international call; they said they’d get back to me, but never did. Follow up support seemed too difficult, so we gave up. Booking online wasn’t streamlined either. We asked a colleague to book us in and were charged $50 more per night for the same room advertised online. Very disappointing.

My friends from the USA had booked and paid through booking.com five months ahead. I called that morning and spoke with booking manager Erdenesuren to confirm the reservation. But when we arrived around 6 pm on check-in day, staff first couldn’t find it. After we showed the confirmation and mentioned my call, she said, I assume it was Erdenesuren, that they had received 12 room reservations before we arrived and had given our room to those people. What kind of hotel does that? She didn’t apologize, had an attitude, and even seemed to pretend she couldn’t speak English. When I asked in Mongolian, she said she’d send us to Happiness hotel instead, which was in a weird location and two times cheaper. Don’t book in advance or trust these people. I don’t know why she acted that way when she was the one who made a mistake and gave our pre-booked, paid room to her friends. I wonder if she was related to hotel management. The other employees all looked miserable and irritated. I’ve never seen a hotel with such hostile, miserable staff. Stay away!
