Nomado Boutique Hotel

After a 22-hour train ride from Russia and four hours walking around to fill the time, we were exhausted and needed a shower. We had left our luggage at 10 and confirmed the 14:00 check-in, as their policy stated. When we returned at 14:00, a girl spoke to us rudely and said we couldn't check in until 16:00 because they were disinfecting. There was no apology or offer of compensation. We canceled and went to another hotel, where they treated us like people and gave us a room right away. A horrible experience.

I really liked the red room I booked. It had a romantic, adventurous feel, and was great overall. The one problem was a piece of wood in the middle of the mattress that made the bed pretty uncomfortable.

The room became hard to stay in after I showered: a strong, disgusting smell started coming from the drain, and I couldn't sleep properly because of it. I told the staff right away, hoping they'd move me or find a real fix. Instead, they said they'd spray air freshener to “remove” the odor and told me to stay put. I felt ignored and uncared for as a guest. I've stayed in many places, and this was one of my worst experiences. The hygiene was poor, and the staff's indifference and lack of basic hospitality made it worse. I hope management takes this seriously and improves both cleanliness and how guests are treated.

It's about a 20-minute trip to Chinggis Khaan Square, so the center isn't too far away. Rooms facing the back looked much bigger and quieter, and the hotel seemed attentive to details. For the price, it works if you mostly need somewhere to sleep, but I'd book away from the street and eat breakfast in town. Our small room faced the street, where Ulaanbaatar traffic honks constantly, so earplugs were essential. The AC worked, though it blew straight onto the bed, and one mattress had a dip that could bother some people. Breakfast was a letdown: by 8am the bread, milk, and cereal bowls were gone and weren't replaced. Don't expect European breakfast standards.
