Ole Tai Sam Un Hotel

The daytime receptionist was super friendly, which is why I’m still giving five stars. The location is great if you’re here to explore Macau’s charming old center instead of gambling in the casinos. The room was plain but spacious and comfortable enough. A few small things could be better: there were only three hangers, and somewhere to hang more things plus a low table or shelf for luggage would help. There was construction in the building from 11am to 5pm, so relaxing at the hotel during those hours wasn’t very appealing. I hope the work finishes soon for future guests.

The location is good and the price was decent, but a few things were frustrating. We booked through booking.com and got stuck in the Hong Kong typhoon, so we couldn’t arrive that night. I tried calling to ask about shifting the booking to the next night, but the number seemed wrong or broken. The only answer was an AI voice called alyssia who said she didn’t know me and didn’t want to talk. When we arrived, the hotel said it couldn’t move the booking, so we had to pay again. The room smelled and felt a little damp, though it seemed fairly clean, especially the bathroom. We had an early flight and asked in advance if they could arrange a taxi. They told us to come down when ready and they’d call one. At 4am nobody was there, so we had to find a taxi ourselves. Luckily, taxis were easy to find at any hour, but it was disappointing after asking ahead.

I gave a valid reason I couldn’t travel: my group visa didn’t allow me to extend the trip, as my travel agent confirmed at the last minute. The hotel still refused to refund me. It felt like they just wanted to make money at my expense.

This has been my best hotel experience so far. The reception staff were amazing and helpful. There are taxi and bus services nearby, with stops at Almeida Ribeiro/Ocbc and Kam Pek Community Centre.
