Le Village Pomme Cannelle

The village is a peaceful spot in northern Martinique, and our room was comfortable, practical, and well equipped. Breakfast was a pleasant buffet with some local fruit juices, though it cost an extra 10€ per person. The staff were very nice, and despite the issues, I'd still recommend staying here. Our quiet morning by the pool was spoiled by very loud construction on an annex. Staff didn't respond to the disturbance. Also, even for a one-night stay, we were expected to sweep and clean our room.

The view and setting are beautiful, but be prepared for a frustrating meal. We arrived at 8pm and found most of the buffet gone, with no plan to refill it. Nobody told us it cost 29 euros per person when they seated us and suggested we order drinks. Other tables kept opening empty trays, and staff seemed unconcerned. We had to ask for bread and more food, then wait ages. Instead of replenishing the buffet, they seemed set on serving us a plate of meat. They eventually fried some accra, and the other tables went for it too. When we complained and left, we heard a string of excuses: that more food was being made, that only one person was helping the kitchen, and that a large table with lots of young people had eaten a lot. The place itself is lovely, but it felt like they were trying to rob us blind.

The garden is lovely, the houses are clean, and both the view and breakfast were good. The problem is how badly the place is managed. The pool table was a mess, the kitchen was short on spoons, and the receptionist wasn't there at the times posted. The cleaning instructions were vague too. It needs serious, hands-on management to earn a higher rating.

The staff are very nice, and the accommodation is clean and decent with air conditioning. Still, I wouldn't call it a great holiday choice if you're coming from overseas. You'll need a car, though Mount Pelée is quite close by car. Views vary between apartments. The two-bedroom one has no sea view. There were lots of mosquitoes and no nets, and the kitchen was very basic. There's a barbecue area, but it can get quite noisy when it's busy.
