The House in Old Mint Street

I booked eight nights here in winter 2022, but after one night I couldn't bear staying a week in such a cold, damp, dirty, dark, moldy place. I left, then called and texted the host, who was incredibly rude. The host then cancelled my booking on booking.com as a no-show, which meant I couldn't leave a review or take it through their disputes team. The pictures are heavily photoshopped. The host was dishonest and insulting. Stay away.

This was a strange and disappointing experience. My booking through booking.com had been paid and confirmed since mid November. Then, on 3rd of december, a guy suddenly messaged me on WhatsApp asking me to cancel it. Free cancellation was no longer available, but he assured me it would be fine. After I insisted, the accommodation made free cancellation possible through booking.com, so I went ahead and cancelled. I had to find somewhere else, which by then cost more, and spend quite a bit of time rearranging the trip. I've made hundreds of bookings through booking.com and this has never happened before. At the very least, the host seems disorganized, and it caused me problems. Maybe I was unlucky, but if you want a reliable stay in Valletta, I'd pick somewhere else.

The host said they would refund my cancelled reservation if the dates were booked again. The property was in fact rented for those dates, but when I followed up about the refund, the host stopped replying to my messages. I feel cheated and ignored. Other reviews make it seem like I may not be the only guest to have concerns about the host's integrity. That behavior is unacceptable, and I'd strongly advise people to avoid this host to avoid a similar experience.

The room was very clean, extremely comfortable, and really cute, and the location was excellent, just five minutes from Valletta's main streets. The only downside is that it doesn't have many windows, so there's not much natural light. It didn't bother us at all, though.
