The snorkeling in front of the water villas was the standout for us, even though we’d been told the beach villa area was best. I’ve never seen so much marine life in one place. Our butler, Ali, was wonderful too, so calm and good at putting guests at ease. I booked without knowing much about Milaidhoo, and it turned out to be the most peaceful stay we’ve had in the Maldives. My husband especially needed the break after months of working weekends. He called it heaven on earth. We’re grateful to the whole team and can’t wait to return.

The people here made leaving surprisingly hard. From our butler and the fruit stand attendant to the servers, cleaning crew, manager, excursion staff, and everyone at the spa, we had lovely conversations and learned about Maldivian culture and the staff themselves. Everyone was kind and knowledgeable, and they made us feel like family. We loved the spa enough to book two couples’ sessions. We also made the most of the activities. Complimentary yoga was a great workout, with a fantastic instructor and a lovely view from the yoga room, and we enjoyed the free kayaking. On the dolphin watching trip we saw lots of dolphins. We also tried Maldivian handline fishing and got to choose the fish for dinner afterward. The food was incredible, especially the authentic Maldivian dishes. Our overwater villa was stunning, with amazing sunsets, and snorkeling right by it brought us turtles, sharks, and plenty of colorful fish. We were told on arrival that the sharks are vegetarian, lol. We planned the honeymoon in two parts because of the long journey, spending our first week in Thailand and the second in the Maldives. This was my husband’s dream trip, and it was a 10/10 experience. I left with tears in my eyes and hope we can come back someday.

The reef was spectacular, and we loved doing yoga each morning. Dinner at Ba’theli was a particular treat for its expertise. Service was fantastic, and the rooms were great. We wanted an easy, relaxing week in paradise, and this place was exactly right. It’s incredible that the marine diversity has earned UNESCO Biosphere status. I do wish guests got a little more information about it and about responsible snorkeling to help protect the coral. We loved our stay.

The food was the highlight. Every restaurant was excellent, and breakfast at the buffet was especially impressive. Milaidhoo is a small, intimate island with a lovely relaxed feel, and we had an amazing stay celebrating an early birthday on our second trip to the Maldives. Yenny, our personal butler, was thoughtful and attentive. We looked forward to Alfie’s morning coffee every day, and Shiaz’s friendly breakfast chats made us feel at home. The massage wasn’t quite to our taste, but the team handled our feedback professionally and offered us a complimentary session the next day. We didn’t take it, though we appreciated the effort.

The team is a real strength here. They call themselves “family members,” and that warmth comes through throughout the stay. Our villa host was attentive and proactive, always available without hovering. Paul, the senior General Manager, has a lot of international experience, and his standards seem reflected in the service and atmosphere across the island. Food was one of the best parts for us. Breakfast combines a huge buffet with an extensive à la carte menu, and Evinda and his team will make something for you if you still can’t find what you want. For a resort this small, there’s a lot of choice. Batheli serves fine dining Maldivian and Sri Lankan food in a distinctive setting. Shoreline Grill is great for dry-aged beef and Teppanyaki, while Ocean has well-cooked international and local dishes. The island has about 50 villas, so it never felt busy. Everything is nearby while still feeling private. Our villa was very spacious, with one of the largest pools we’ve experienced in the Maldives. The design is elegant and warm, with thoughtful details. I’d suggest a lagoon-facing villa, where the water is usually calmer and there’s less wind, depending on the season. Transfers by seaplane and arrival and departure were well organized, and hospitality stayed consistently high. Snorkeling in the lagoon was enjoyable. If whale sharks and manta rays near Hanifaru Bay are your main reason for coming, the season is roughly July to November. We’ve visited many Maldives resorts over the years, and this is one we’d return to without hesitation. Milaidhoo used to focus more on adults, but now welcomes children from around nine years old and is making a clear effort to welcome families. More activities or sports for kids and teens could complement that change. It’s an elegant, small island with plenty of attention to detail and a team we’d happily return for.
