The worst “romantic dinner” in the Maldives, and probably of my life. The beach setting in Tulusdhoo was beautiful. The dinner itself was awful. My partner and I had gone in two days earlier, seen the Wednesday menu, and agreed to pay $60 total, $30 per person. Nobody told us the kitchen closed at 8:30 PM. We arrived at 8:45 PM and were met with a blunt refusal and a rude attitude from staff, who said the kitchen was closed and they wouldn’t serve us. When we asked for our money back, the owner came out, said it was “no problem” and that we could still eat, but warned the restaurant would close in 40 minutes. A romantic countdown. After that, things just got worse. The starter and main arrived together, like a school cafeteria. The food was cold, tasteless, and clearly rushed. Staff kept asking, “Are you finished yet?” The dessert is still a mystery. It looked like coconut cake, but I’m not sure what it was. The staff’s rude, unwelcoming manner made us feel like a nuisance throughout. The owner asked if we were done and wanted payment while we were still chewing dessert, then they started collecting the candles, lights, and decorations around us while we were still at the table. We paid the full $60 and felt so uncomfortable we left without finishing our drinks in peace. When we paid the remaining $40, the owner stood in front of us and inspected the banknotes one by one as if they might be fake, for a good 30 seconds, with obvious suspicion. It was ugly, uncomfortable, and completely unnecessary, a fitting end to a disgraceful experience. We’ve had an amazing stay in the Maldives, but this was the most expensive dinner we had here and the worst dining experience of the trip. The problem wasn’t just the food, it was the complete lack of professionalism, hospitality, and basic respect for customers. We were shocked and incredulous at the way we were treated. If you want a calm, romantic, well-cared-for dinner, stay far away. If you want to feel rushed and uncomfortable, treated with suspicion while paying full price, this is the place for you. ⭐️, and only because zero stars isn’t an option.
