Akiri Surf Retreat

Breakfast and dinner were freshly made and delicious, and everything nearby was easy to reach on foot. The rooms were clean and well equipped too. The team at Akiri made the stay feel welcoming and familiar. They were caring and helped with everything, from snorkelling and day trips to surf lessons, always trying to make the time here memorable. One of my best vacations. Akiri Surf had a relaxed island feel, with clean, comfortable accommodation that felt like home. The beaches and clear water were lovely, and I appreciated the affection for local islands. Staff made me feel welcome as soon as I arrived and went out of their way to help. It’s a great fit for surfing, snorkelling, or simply taking it easy.

Akiri felt like a family from the start. Everyone was friendly and had such a good vibe, and the island is very local with hardly any tourists, so you get a glimpse of everyday life in the Maldives. This was the best surf trip I’ve ever had, and in 15 years of travelling, this is the best place I’ve stayed. They were flexible with breakfast, serving it later in the day and swapping bread for extra eggs and masuni, a local dish. They arranged boats whenever we wanted to surf or go on an excursion. The room was amazing, with very cold air conditioning for such a hot place. There was also a training area for warming up, plus free water and coffee.

I stayed with Akiri in Grand for a whole month, and the team became family. Dhona and Alba picked me up when I arrived and were lovely hosts throughout, always ready to help with changing money, a trip to Malé, or an island tour. Firu, the supreme leader, organized my stay and helped with every little request. I felt supported the whole time. The surf package trips were organized perfectly each day. Rappe was captain, photographer, and entertainment all in one. Since it was my first time surfing reef breaks, Himsay helped me a lot as our surf guide, and was always there, even fishing out guests’ lost boards. The diving trips with Messi were just as great, fun while still feeling safe and under control, including the night dive. The cook made amazing food and even served it after ten when I got up late, my fault. Butter chicken was my favorite, so full of flavor. The whole Akiri team became family. If I go to the Maldives again, I’ll stay with Akiri. Much love!
