Hotel Tortuga Acapulco

The room was roomy, with a nice little balcony where we could sit and chat with friends. The hotel is well located, and it’s not a long walk to the beach or clubs. The air conditioning never really cooled the room, though, and there was no Wi-Fi in the room during my stay.

The elevator takes what feels like hours between floors, and the hotel is poorly maintained with too few staff. Watch out with the parking staff too, they may wash your car without asking and then charge 50 pesos for it. Our air conditioning stopped working overnight. I had to call someone twice before they fixed it, and eventually got moved to another room. Worst stay ever. Don’t stay here.

I had a nice holiday here with close friends from Mexico City. Our rooms were clean and quiet, and had kitchenettes. We used the pool now and then, but mostly went to the beach, which was a short walk south, about three blocks away.

The location is excellent, close to the beach, clubs and bars, and the bungie tower, with good views. The rooms aren’t tiny compared with other places, the toilets worked very well, the breakfast buffet was pretty good, and the service was decent. I’d have given it three stars if the air conditioning worked. Maintenance is severely lacking. The air conditioning wasn’t working anywhere, and a service tech said it kept breaking because the owner was cheap and wouldn’t fix it properly. The elevators were damaged and worked when they felt like it. The open-air lobby used to be enclosed, but its glass roof broke, perhaps from wind damage or wear, and was never repaired. Rooms smelled of mold. There was no Wi-Fi, and the pool was dirty and rundown, with sharp broken tiles. The turtles in the pond were living in bad conditions.
