Bacalar 777 Hotel Boutique

The lagoon is the real draw here: it’s huge, secluded, crystal clear, fresh water, and has around six or seven shades of turquoise. My wife and I stayed a couple of nights at this tiny resort with just eight suites, and every suite looks out over the water. Bacalar is gorgeous and still less talked about than the popular Cancun destinations, about four hours from Cancun. We usually vacation in the Riviera Maya, but have explored farther afield over the years. This stay was all about relaxing, either for a couple or a small family. It’s definitely not a party place. Jose from the grounds crew was a standout, and Fernando, Alex, and Leo all did a great job too. We really appreciated the care we got and can’t wait to come back. Five stars for Triple 7 Hotel Bacalar!

The lagoon is amazing, and our room was comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly too. Getting in is a bit rough, like at other boutique hotels around here, but I’d definitely return.

The staff were really friendly, but we chose this place for the huge tub shown in the ad. There was no water pressure to fill it and no hot water at all, so we took quick cold showers and left by 9 a.m.

We left after one night of a two-night booking. The drive back and forth was such a hassle, and the pool was in no state to enjoy. I spoke with the person in charge, explained why we were leaving, and was told our money would be returned. Later, the hotel agency said it couldn't get in touch with them and would email. After waiting for an answer, I was told Bacalar 777 hotel had denied the refund. If they weren't going to return it, why say they would? The road in was rough, so rent a truck, not a sedan. It's about 20 minutes from downtown Bacalar. The pool had dead insects and looked dirty; the room was cute and nice, but felt more suited to a honeymoon. There's no TV or wifi. Food was expensive and not worth it. You can get better quality food for less downtown, and if you want something more exclusive, maya hotel has a nice entrance and service for a cheaper price. The pictures in the ad don't match how it actually looks. It's super overpriced, and you can find something cheaper in downtown Bacalar. This place could be nice if they fixed the roads, cleaned the pool, made the food properly, and the manager kept his word about refunds.
