The rooftop pool was the best part for us, with lovely lagoon sunrises and a laid-back spot to sit. HOKAB Hotel is really clean, the bed was comfortable, the A/C worked, and the Roku TV was handy in the evenings. The rooftop has astroturf and two clean washrooms. We could hear birds and there were friendly stray dogs and cats around, which gave the place a bit of character. We only found HOKAB after an Airbnb disaster, so it felt like a rescue. The gentleman at reception was kind and spoke great English, and the hotel felt welcoming and good for families. The solar hot water worked well, though it took a few seconds to arrive. I bought an inexpensive showerhead at a local store to replace a clogged one. The road in and out is rough, but I’d definitely stay again when I’m back in Bacalar.

Hotel Hokab made a great base for exploring Bacalar. We could walk to the beach, lagoon, central market, and pretty much everything else. The place was clean and well looked after, with a relaxed, friendly feel. I stayed five nights and loved it, and I’d happily return.

Getting there is the one downside. From the main highway, you turn onto a dirt road, and that entrance still isn't marked on Google Maps. The hotel itself is small but has the amenities you need, and reception is helpful whenever something comes up.

The staff were attentive, and the rooms were clean and pleasant. The shower had hot water too. I highly recommend it.
