La Galuna Bacalar

The kids absolutely loved the pool, and the staff were very friendly. Great location too. The rooms look really nice, but the beds were by far the hardest we had on our trip, and the shower was very slippery. Breakfast also felt expensive.

The location was great, close to plenty of tours and just a 13-minute walk to the city center, so I didn't need a taxi or car. I felt safe walking at night, even at 1 a.m. Staff were friendly and communicated well. It's a small, quiet place, with generally good wifi, though it dropped out sometimes. For what I paid, the accommodation was okay, but I think a little more money could have got me something nicer. I never saw anyone tending the bar, though I'm sure it opens. The power went out on my first morning, which also meant no water. There were two bottles of water in the room when I arrived, but they were never replaced.

The pool was nice, but it and the bar were squeezed into a space that felt far too small. Staff were friendly, though their English was very limited. The hotel looks pretty, but the noise made it a poor place to rest: I could hear people walking, talking, and closing doors from my room. The bar refrigerator was so loud it sounded like a bulldozer, even when I was trying to sleep. Breakfast was very basic.

We had a really relaxing stay this week, with tasty cocktails and helpful tips from the staff about what to do around town. We booked massages and they came right to the hotel, which was such a great experience. The breakfast, rooms, staff, and pool were all great. We'll definitely be back!
