We spent so much of the day swimming and relaxing from the peaceful private jetty right on the lagoon. There were kayaks, paddle boards, and bikes available for free to explore the area. The apartment was beautiful, the location stunning, and the hosts were always friendly and helpful. We stayed three nights and didn't want to leave.
We'd just spent two nights at a more expensive, supposedly 'premium' place up the road, and this was fantastic by comparison. The suite was spacious, with an internal staircase, and it felt much more accommodating. It's a bit rustic and dated, so it's not for anyone after a fancy five-star hotel. But if you want lagoon access in a friendly, safe, homey place, it's great value. A little Spanish helps, though the lovely staff can sort things out with Google Translate. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Bacalar. The bikes could probably use servicing.
We've stayed here twice and it's our favorite place in Bacalar. The property is beautiful, with a few suites and bungalows, and it's really peaceful. The dock is lovely, and you can use the kayaks and bikes. Staff are super friendly, and the cats made good company.
The view and atmosphere are what make this place. It's a wooden chalet on a pontoon over the lagoon, with a lovely porch facing the sunrise. The beds are comfy, the toilet and shower work okay, and there's a fridge to keep beers cold. Kayaks and paddleboards are free. There are a few scuffs and scratches, but the pictures don't do it justice. The place is kept really clean and the staff are very friendly. We took a lagoon boat trip from the front, which was great value. Bacalar is lovely too, with lots of good restaurants and bars but not over-commercialized. We'll definitely visit again. Heaven on Earth is a phrase people use for this property, and I can see why. Looking at some negative reviews, I don't really get it. You'd pay $700 a night for somewhere like this in the Maldives, and this is probably better.
The staff were wonderful and it felt like being in a family home, private and sweet. Our little suite right on the lagoon was so romantic, like we had the whole place to ourselves. We fell asleep and woke to the water lapping at the shore below us, with a breeze coming through the window. 10/10, we'll be back! Please use all-organic sunscreen and save water to help save the lagoon.
