Posada Casa Madrid

We had a great stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were spacious, with a very comfortable bed and a nice air conditioner. The lagoon and zocalo were a 10-minute walk away, along streets with amazing fondas serving delicious food at very fair prices. The internet was spotty sometimes, the only inconvenience. But honestly, in a fun place like Bacalar, we probably shouldn't be online so much.

I booked a room because I was backpacking, unwell with heat stroke and a migraine, and needed somewhere to recover. The hotel looked like it would work. When I arrived at 3:45, after check-in had supposedly begun at 3, the place was locked. I messaged through Booking.com and got no reply, so I contacted their support. They gave the property another half hour to respond, then the property cancelled my reservation. I spent an hour sitting beside a dusty, scorching road, and got no apology or explanation. I felt even worse afterward. This is too unreliable to plan a vacation around.

For the prices in Bacalar, this place is a steal. The proprietoress knows more about Bacalar and Yucatec history than anyone I've met. Good people, good service, and a great location. I really liked staying here.

Staff are friendly, and the location is handy, close to both the lagoon and Downtown. Posada Casa Madrid is a very good deal for the price when you're visiting Bacalar.
