We booked two nights through Expedia and paid in advance, but trouble started as soon as we arrived. There were no entry instructions, no sign outside, and the building looked nothing like the Google or Expedia photos, so it was a headache to find. When we finally reached the owner by phone, his directions were so cryptic that even our driver found him strange. The only employee there seemed uneasy about letting us in. Once she did, she handed us a phone to speak to the owner. He implied we needed to pay, so I explained that Expedia had already charged me in full. He said there was a problem and wanted us to fix it for him: apparently Expedia collected from guests but hadn't paid him his share, and he wanted me to call them. I asked whether he would let us stay and why he couldn't call Expedia himself. He said we could stay, but expected us to help. We were exhausted from the long flight and drive and just wanted to rest. The room smelled of mold, had old marks on the wall from a leaking AC, and felt generally sketchy. We were put on the third floor, reached only by tiny spiral stairs that were difficult and inconvenient with our luggage. I tried to call Expedia, but the call wouldn't go through from Mexico on my US number. The employee let me use her phone, and I got customer service to issue a refund. After the major hassle and the owner's sketchy behavior, we weren't going to pay him directly and stay as he wanted. I called to say we were leaving, and he wasn't at all apologetic about the stressful experience he'd caused.

The room smelled of mould and was noisy all night. When I raised that and asked for a solution to leave our luggage a little longer after checkout, the host laughed at me and called me a bad guest. He made us feel really uncomfortable. There are much better places at this price with hosts who welcome and appreciate their guests.

I booked ahead through Booking.com and checked the reviews, then contacted the owner there. They said there was a pricing issue and that they'd get in touch with Booking.com to sort it out. The owner was polite in messages, but the outcome was really disappointing, so I booked somewhere else. From what I've read, it seems like things need sorting out. I think people should know about this. All the best, and I hope you can resolve it with Booking.com.

The day before check-in, after I'd booked and paid in full on Booking.com, the admin started asking for extra cash at arrival. Tech support canceled the booking for free and refunded me. They're scammers. Don't stay in this apartment.

I spent eight nights here. If you want a standard hotel experience, this probably isn't the place. I'm introverted and like being left alone, so it suited me. The room was clean and private, and the Wi-Fi worked. You can walk easily to the mall and Walmart Express. The park is at the end of the street, an Oxxo is three minutes away, and several pharmacies are nearby, which was useful since I was here for dental work. Restaurants are close too. If you're new to the area, Cafe Nader and Los Tarascos are comfortable options. The main downside for some people is the privacy: the room isn't cleaned during your stay. That didn't bother me. I took my own rubbish out and made my own bed. One small annoyance was arriving when the cleaning lady wasn't there, which meant waiting outside until she showed up. A phone number posted outside to contact the owner would help. The cat is the full-time concierge. My biggest complaint is how they handle card payments. When booking online, they take your card details and explain cancellation charges, so it seems they can process the card. But once you arrive, they insist on cash and claim they can't charge a card. It feels like a bait-and-switch to avoid card processing fees.
