Eco-Hotel El Rey del Caribe

The courtyard pool has this 1950s feel, with stucco, tile, and fountains that make it seem like Frida and Diego were just there. It’s a lovely spot for kids too, with hammocks, a little pool, and a treehouse kind of atmosphere. The hotel is downtown, close to restaurants, and the neighborhood felt very safe to walk around. There’s urgent care within a block, plus yoga and bike tours nearby. The Cancún Centro bus stop is close enough if you’re okay walking 5-10 minutes, and from there you can reach most places in Quintana Roo. The beach and bigger tourist sights are a long trip, though. Breakfast is included, with American options and diner-style coffee, not instant. There’s free water in the carafe by the front door and mini fridges in the rooms. Beds are firm and comfortable, the water pressure is moderate, and it gets hot. You can book an in-house massage for $80 USD, and nearby hotels offer spa day passes.

The staff were lovely, and Lupita gave good massages at fair prices. The breakfast is included, with both Mexican dishes and American favorites. Rooms were clean, comfortable, and fairly spacious, with good Wi-Fi, a mini split, ceiling fan, and a fridge with a freezer. You can get around by inDrive or the ADO bus. The hotel feels like a quiet private forest, with birds singing and two leafy courtyards. One has a pool and Jacuzzi, and there are hammocks, loungers, and a patio corner for sitting and talking. The lobby is a nice cool place to unwind, with free coffee, tea, and water available all the time. They take the environmental side seriously: solar heated water, pool water reused for toilets, towels only on request, and plenty of recycling. It’s downtown Cancun, on Av Uxmal near Av Nader, and close to good restaurants and bars serving everything from tacos to sushi and pizza. Parque de las Palapas and Mercado 23 are nearby too, with street food and handicrafts. The front desk has various amenities if you’ve forgotten something. It works well for families, solo travelers, or anyone wanting a relaxed, unusual place to stay. Just know there’s no elevator, and alcohol and tobacco aren’t allowed, so it won’t suit someone who can’t manage stairs or wants to party.

Good value and a handy location near Cancun centro and the ADO bus station. Bus stops are close, so getting around is easy. The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was decent. The room Wi-Fi was terrible, though. That’s what kept me from giving it five stars.

We stayed two nights before moving on to our final accommodation. The room and bathroom were very clean, and the bed was comfortable. The staff were kind and helpful, and there was free water, coffee, and tea at reception. The garden feels like a tiny jungle, with a small pool. Great value for the price, highly recommend.
