Hostelito Chetumal Hotel & Hostel

After a long bus ride, we stayed here for a day to sleep. We were near the upstairs common area, though, and some men stayed up drinking until midnight. Then the cleaning woman squeegeed the floors at 7am, which wasn't pleasant. The beds were okay, but there was only a sheet, and we found small ants in the room. We did like the street food, the warm shower, and the help from the front desk.

The pool area had potential, but the water needed cleaning. The chairs and sunbeds had no cushions, so you were lying on hard wooden panels that weren't comfortable at all. We also found the room difficult to sleep in. There were no thick blankets, and it was too humid and hot without AC. With the AC on, though, the thin sheets weren't enough and it got very cold. The garbage can had no bag, and there was feces on the bottom. It's a cute little hostel with a lot of potential, but arrival was another hiccup. We'd messaged the workers on WhatsApp that we'd get in around midnight, when reception was closed. Luckily we arrived before midnight, but the reception door was shut and locked. We tried it to see if it was open. The receptionist came over to check us in and reprimanded us for “breaking the door,” even though we'd only tried the handle.

The staff were super nice. Breakfast is small and simple, but at that price I liked it, since you can't expect a buffet when you're not paying for one. A thick blanket option might be nice.

Great local for downtown tulim night life!! Friendly, helpful staff, and the place is very clean and well kept. There's always organized parties, outings, games, and more. Air on all day if requested.
