Capital Plaza Hotel

It’s centrally located and the rooms were clean, with comfortable beds. For a one-night stop before a flight, it’s okay, but that’s about all I’d recommend. The hotel is old and not very pleasant inside. Service was poor: staff sat in a room and didn’t get up when I arrived at reception. The “gym” is one room with three machines, and its treadmill was out of order. My room card wouldn’t open the door. When I asked for help, they brought me my own card, which of course didn’t work, then got annoyed when they had to go back for their card. 😂 At night, party music from outside was audible.

The door attendant was friendly and really nice, but the other staff seemed distracted and didn’t care much about their jobs. It’s in a pretty good location, though the rooms are old. Our key card stopped working, and the gym is tiny with an out-of-service treadmill.

From the street entrance you wouldn’t expect much, but the inside was surprisingly clean and nicely decorated, especially considering how tightly the hotel is squeezed among other buildings. Parking gives easy access to the rooms and conference rooms. It was much better than the three-star listing suggested. I also liked the market and museum across the street.

We paid $49 plus $10 for taxes and fees, and I’d definitely rate this a five-star hotel. The food in the fine dining restaurant was superb, the pool area was pretty and relaxing, and our room and bed were comfortable. The service was great if you can manage without English. We didn’t mind the language barrier and had fun with it. As soon as we got out of the taxi, a bell hop opened the door for us. When we headed out for the day, the door was opened again and someone waved down a taxi. There are lots of vendors and shops nearby. Don’t expect a beach, but there’s a nice boardwalk with statues for photos, and a museum right across from the hotel.
