I wouldn’t call this a four-star hotel at all. The room smelled, its air conditioning was broken, and there were only two towels in the shower. The staff also don’t speak English. Terrible hotel.

I’ve been here for a whole week, and the restaurant has fed me well. The menu mixes traditional dishes with international food and a local twist. Try the garlicky shrimp, chicken in curry sauce, and chorizo appetizer. The beers are always cold, and the restaurant staff are friendly and attentive. Housekeeping also does a very good job keeping the rooms clean. The front desk staff seem very serious and never smile. I’d love to see this town bustling like it might have in the distant past. It feels like a hidden gem on the gulf, if it weren’t clouded by corruption.

Prices are moderate and the service is nice. It’s a good spot downtown in Coatzacoalcos for dinner, breakfast, lunch, coffee, or cookies and cake, with the beach and river just a few blocks away.
