The staff were all super friendly, which is the only reason I’m giving this place two stars. Hotel San Marcos “Grand” may once have deserved the name, but now it feels sad, tired, and underfunded. The WiFi was awful. Right by the open door I got 5-6 Mbps, but farther back at the bed or table, where you can have privacy, it was barely one Mbps, if I could connect at all. The furniture looks like it came straight from the 80’s. The bed is comfortable in the sense that all the mattress springs have lost their bounce, and the chair padding has been flattened by a million rear ends. Bring house shoes too. My socks got so dirty while I unpacked that I put my shoes back on. The carpets badly need a deep clean. I won’t be back. There are beautiful AirBnBs nearby that cost less than one night at the “Grand”. Do yourself a favor and book one of those instead.

It was an okay hotel, but it really needs renovating. The air conditioning had just one setting and speed, and it was very cold. I’m unlikely to return until they upgrade the hotel.

It has a Victorian look, with statues, paintings, and a long staircase. The hotel is on the main avenue in the city center, with valet parking in an underground garage. There’s also a conference area, a restaurant, and very spacious rooms. One of the best in the city.

I loved the valet parking, and the indoor restaurant served good food. The elegant rooms were clean and well appointed. Breakfast was included with the room and was good. One of the choices was huevos rancheros.
