Very disappointing, and we won't be back. We've stayed here several times over the years and loved it, but our experience on 2/26 was awful. I ordered a "bottle of rosé" and the waiter brought sparkling rosé instead. We didn't question it at first since we were having a good time. When he brought the bill, we were shocked: he'd given us the most expensive bottle of rosé on the menu, $280 USD! We questioned him, and he said I'd asked for that specific rosé, which I hadn't. We spoke to management later, but he seemed oblivious and didn't care at all.

The room mix-up at check-in was an early sign of how poorly things were managed. The woman in the parking area was lovely when we arrived, and the wine tasting staff were friendly and helpful. But at the desk, the staff member seemed unsure which room was ours and opened the wrong one first. The next night there was no water at all, so we couldn't shower or flush the toilet. At the rooftop lounge, a worker pressed us to leave a bigger tip because tips were shared. We understand tipping, but our bill was under $100 and we only had $8 in cash, so it felt uncomfortable. We left the room very clean at checkout. Later we got a message saying they'd charge our $200 security deposit because they said we'd peed on the bed and vomited. That absolutely wasn't true. Luckily we were still close by and went back right away. They'd mixed us up with another room again, and had to refund the deposit. Casa Frida looks great in pictures, but the rest of the stay was a mess. I won't return and can't recommend it.

Ángel made the mezcal tasting such a good experience. He guided us through it and helped us get the most out of the tasting. We loved the terrace and balcony too, and hope to come back sometime. Thanks for a fabulous time!

****updated review 02/07/2026**** The room rating is still 3 stars since we didn't stay on the grounds again. We did visit the Speak Easy (Chavela Cava), though. We called ahead and told the hostess when we arrived, and she had everything arranged. It was just us and the speakeasy bartender in the cava. Since it was early February and off season, I can't say what waits or crowds are like at other times. Knock three times and you're in la cava. The decor is incredible, and the atmosphere is just what you'd hope for, with even more to it. We chose tequila paired with chocolate, which I highly recommend over wine. I won't give away the experience, but the history, life, and vibrance of la frida make for an inspiring, hopeful, inviting theme. Photos are allowed, so I added some. Honestly, it was a trip changing experience. While waiting for the speakeasy to open, we ate at Corazon. The ceviche and oysters were fresh, cool, and light, savory without being too citrusy or salty. The Paloma was really good too. The speakeasy stole the show. It's an experience you don't want to miss. Call ahead and mention it to the hostess. *** end update*** We only made a quick daytime stop for a wine tasting, not an overnight stay. The property was decorated for Dia de los Muertos, and it looked like a fun fiesta was about to happen. We tried wine with a charcuterie pairing of selected meat cuts; tequila tastings are available too. The wines and meat went together perfectly: rosé first, then a red blend and Cab, finishing with merlot. Angel hosted and was helpful in explaining the Valle de Guadalupe climate, grape growth, and vineyard growing seasons. The visit felt too short, and there's plenty to do or drink. Just know they have to turn people away Friday-Sunday when they're at capacity, so plan a reservation for a weekend visit. Highly recommend.

Changing a reservation is a pain once you've booked, because it's hard to get in touch with them. The booking site is awful: it loads slowly like dial-up from the 90s, and often shows dates on the wrong day of the week, if it loads at all. Book something non-prepaid and you're fine. Anything else, you're screwed.
