Mexico en la Piel

Warning, a lot of our weekend was spoiled by problems. On the first night, the power kept cutting out in our room. Staff said they’d fix it, but when we came back from dinner it was completely out. We switched rooms, though we had to contact staff on Whatsapp and wait in reception until someone came to take us to the new room at 10:30PM. It had dead bugs, but at least the power worked. The next day, they said the power was fixed and we had to return to our old room. They didn’t tell us until we were about to leave for wine tasting, so we had to cut our day short and come back to move our things. Then loud neighbors woke us at 4:30AM the following morning. I’m not a complainer, but this felt like what I’d expect at a group campsite, not this hotel. Take it as a warning. I won’t return even if they gave me a free night.

We love this place. We provide mobile massage and tour pickups here, and the people are great.

The wineries were close by, the service was great, and we had a beautiful view from our room. My favorite part of the stay was Totopo, the resort pup, escorting us in and out every day. He’s a good boy. Really enjoyed staying here.

The central location, nice rooms, and beautiful grounds were all good, but there were too many problems for the price we paid. There wasn’t a proper check-in, so we didn’t know where reception was or how best to contact staff. The man at the entry gate showed us to our room and gave some instructions in Spanish, which we only partly understood. I don’t expect hotel staff to speak English, but I would expect an instruction sheet in both English and Spanish in each room. On the first night, Totopo, the sweet dog who stays on the grounds, barked right outside our room from midnight to 3am. It felt like he was protecting us from something. I love dogs, but after 12 hours of travel, we badly needed sleep and that first night was ruined. We asked for a refund, but were told it went against policy. They also couldn’t arrange complimentary transportation when we asked. They eventually offered a free breakfast, which we appreciated, though it didn’t make up for the anxiety or lack of sleep. We liked the room’s private jacuzzi when we booked, but it hadn’t been heated before we arrived and never got warm enough to use comfortably. We agreed to have it cleaned during the day Saturday since we weren’t planning to use it then. They emptied it, though, and it took most of the day to clean and refill, so it wasn’t ready Saturday evening either. I’d suggest they have it clean and heated before guests arrive. The kitchenette was another small letdown. On the first morning, we had yogurt and cereal with us but no bowls or silverware. We were able to get some from the restaurant, so it wasn’t a huge deal, but I didn’t expect that with a kitchenette. After dinner on our second night, we found dozens of dead bugs all over the floor, mostly little flies with big wings, along with some other kinds. We couldn’t figure out why they’d suddenly appeared. We asked housekeeping to sweep them up the next day, and they did as soon as we left. No more dead bugs showed up for the rest of our stay, which was very weird. Our room was right across from the restaurant, and on the busy weekend people parked in our driveway and blocked our car. I’d suggest staff direct restaurant guests to park somewhere else so they don’t take up the hotel guests’ space.
