Hotel Chocolate

The food was good, and there's a taco place inside. It was empty when we arrived. This was the first time I'd had to have a room inspected before checkout. Getting there was difficult because my GPS signal was lost in the underground tunnels.

The view was the only good thing about a very bad stay. The hotel was old, smelled bad, had an uncomfortable bed, and was expensive, among other problems. Service was definitely poor, and the women were rude. There's no parking, though they offer parking somewhere else for a charge. You have to walk hundreds of steps to reach the room. Avoid it if you can.

The bathroom had a strange musty smell, and getting to the hotel meant climbing a few steep flights of stairs. That part didn't bother us, but they should mention it before booking. Front desk service was the worst, and they didn't care about customers. They said parking was included, but it wasn't. Their shuttle was never available, and if you're two minutes late, they'll leave you. The woman with "blond" hair basically told us it wasn't her problem.

We almost canceled when we saw how many stairs led up to the hotel. Then we saw the view from the balcony and decided to stay. Nothing beats it. Our room was spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated, with a lovely view of Guanajuato. We enjoyed hearing the city through the night, which made the stay unforgettable. The staff were friendly and accommodating. My parents and I had a great visit, and we plan to return to Guanajuato.
