Hotel de la Paz

You can step out of the hotel and be right in Centro Historico, which makes exploring easy. The bed is very comfortable, the air conditioning works great and is too quiet to cover other sounds, and both the shower and bathroom were decent. The amenities are pleasant. If quick access to your room and centro activities matters, the location is ideal. Sleep can be tricky, though. The University stairs and Cathedral are nearby, so street noise goes on into the early morning, then the bells ring for 8 o’clock Mass just four hours later. Bring earplugs. All the rooms face the central atrium, so sounds from inside the building carry too.

The staff were friendly in Spanish, and the room was clean. The terrace in the de la Paz area has a great view. The one issue during our stay was that they were painting some interiors on Sunday, and the smell left us a little dizzy for a day.

We splurged on a room with panoramic views and really enjoyed it. It’s a lovely, simple place in a charming building, with a brilliant location.

The rooms are clean, and it’s a budget hotel, so you get what you pay for. It has the elevator, 24-hour desk, location, and air conditioning I was looking for, but don’t expect amenities like a coffee pot or mini fridge. The main problem was the noise, both outside and inside. The building echoes, and the staff didn’t seem concerned about how much noise they made. We wouldn’t stay again.
