Blue Holbox

The staff are lovely, and breakfast is perfectly fine, with fruit, eggs, cakes, coffee, and more. We’re here now and enjoying it. Just keep in mind that our bungalow is a little dark when choosing your room category.

The wooden cabins have charm, the rooms are spacious, and we enjoyed the sea view. Laura at the front desk was friendly, and the person cleaning our room was kind and professional. Still, after three nights at Blue Holbox, we came away disappointed. Breakfast was very poor. The coffee was undrinkable, the food quality was extremely low, and the breakfast staff showed little interest in guests. It made our mornings unpleasant and didn’t fit the price or the setting. There were basic maintenance problems too. The balcony sliding door wouldn’t close properly, so during a storm strong wind came into the room, making a loud whistling sound and leaving an uncomfortable cold draft. The toilet seat was also very poor quality and kept slipping into the bowl when used, which quickly became frustrating. Blue Holbox has a lot going for it in its design, location, and some friendly staff, but the breakfast and lack of maintenance mean we can’t recommend it in its current state.

Children are allowed, and this is a very family-oriented hotel. You can hear them everywhere, all the time, so keep that in mind. The main reason for my 2 stars was the internet in our room, which worked for roughly 15 minutes a day. I kept having to walk to reception, where it worked perfectly, so it wasn’t a general outage. My Saily eSIM didn’t work on the island, and I needed internet for basic things like Google Maps. I reported the room connection issue on the first day, but nothing was done.

The staff were kind. The receptionist was lovely, and a man carried our bags and showed us to the room. We had perfect weather with no rain, and the room was a great place to spend time when we weren’t out exploring. The location was wonderful too. We walked about 25 meters out and could still stand in the water, with fine white sand underfoot. There was wildlife around, including the occasional iguana by the pool, which was a fun surprise. The beach was amazing and the room was nice.
