Punta Caliza

The staff at this lovely boutique hotel were kind, welcoming, and helpful. My friends and I stayed for three nights and didn't want to leave. The restaurant is on site, and the food and drinks were excellent. We loved breakfast every morning, along with the fresh juice and cocktails. Punta Caliza isn't directly on the beach, but the hotel's beach club is only a five-minute walk away. It's also a handy spot for mini marts, a fruit market, and a panederia, all within about five minutes. Walking to town takes around nine minutes, and taxis are easy to find. Our room was a great size and extremely clean, with excellent AC. The room and bathroom can feel a little dark at night because of the low lighting, but it wasn't usually a problem. The pool was cleaned daily and a lovely place to relax in the sun. It was just right for a relaxing beach trip, and I'd go back in a heartbeat!

Punta Caliza was the highlight of our trip. July, Leo, and Max welcomed us so warmly and made us feel at home. July is knowledgeable, funny, and full of great recommendations. Leo was attentive, kind, and incredibly helpful, and Max has the best smile on the island. The chefs, other staff, and everyone we met were warm and friendly, and the food is some of the best you'll find on the island. The neighborhood is quiet, with town within walking distance and the beach very close. Staff at the beach club are laid-back and have great taste in music. You can walk to either side of the island in under an hour. And who doesn't love cedar & cement? 10/10. The birds are paid actors.

We liked the hotel's concept, but it wasn't well maintained. We visited in October, two weeks after the hurricane, and both the pool and the pool around our room were very dirty. Since we'd be traveling for a month, I called ahead to ask whether they offered laundry service and was told they did. At the hotel, a receptionist started yelling at us, saying the island's water wasn't good and they didn't provide the service. On the plus side, the food was good, and the other receptionist was nice and helpful.

We loved our stay at Punta Caliza on Isla Holbox. The staff were all so kind and helped with everything we needed, including arranging bikes and taxis for our trip home. The pool was beautiful and refreshing, and the bar made the best mezcalitas I had on the whole trip. We felt very safe walking, and the main restaurants were about ten minutes away on foot. The beach club is just two minutes up the street and well worth visiting for the sunset. We'd come back in a heartbeat. Thanks for having us 💖
