The area around the hotel is pretty run down, but there’s secure parking if you need it, and the staff are very friendly. The rooms were spotlessly clean and opened onto an inner pool area, which was heated. There’s also a nice little restaurant on site with great breakfasts. It takes about ten minutes to walk to downtown, though watch the cobblestones and potholes so you don’t break a leg, lol. I was pleasantly surprised and would definitely recommend it to people I know.

The front desk was staffed 24 hours, and they spoke English and Spanish, made dinner reservations for us, and were always happy to help. My partner and I spent four nights here and had a wonderful time. Our room was clean, the restaurant was great, and the coffee was fantastic. The pool and lounge area were kept clean, too. The neighborhood had a lovely, quaint, typical Mexican feel, with a short walk to the beach and to the square where lots of festivities were happening. We’re considering moving here and talked with a few Americans who live in the area; they shared positive information. I’d recommend the hotel and stay here again. Charlie and Rob

I wasn’t happy with the service, the location, or the nearby beach. Next time I’ll stay at gauyabitos beach, where there are much better hotels for lower prices.

The on-site restaurant does a delicious breakfast, and having coffee by the pool in the morning is a lovely way to start the day. I stayed five nights while visiting friends in the area. The rooms were a good size, clean, and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a relatively quiet part of town. It may look like a long trek into town, but it’s only a good five to ten minutes away. I’d stay again while in La Penita 👍

The pool is beautiful, but I wouldn’t stay again for what I paid per night in La Penita. My room was okay, though the bedspread was old and the pillows felt more worn out than I was. I only had coffee at the restaurant. It cost 40 pesos one morning and 45 pesos for the same coffee the next day. The cook was laughing and talking about me, and I understood because I speak Spanish. Not cool. On Friday and Saturday, staff hung around the bar talking and laughing loudly until 9:00am. The rooms are arranged in a U shape, so it was very loud. At 6:00am Sunday, a guy threw the outdoor mattresses against the wall by my room, and I thought someone was coming in. I finally opened my door at 7:00am and asked them to talk somewhere else. I only saw a few other guests, and I’m assuming I was treated disrespectfully by staff because I’m white. The only helpful person was the afternoon girl with the brackets. The road outside was always wet and muddy from the water place next door. It’s a good six-block walk to town, but two blocks to the beach and two to the bridge to Guyamitos. I’m sure there are other places that would appreciate my business more.
