Hotel Gran Centenario

The only real plus was the low price and central location. The rooms don’t look like the pictures and aren’t well maintained. Ours was at the back, next to a nightclub, with no sound insulation. It was impossible to sleep, and the vibrations still came through. There was also a door that opened onto nowhere, letting in light and mosquitoes. When we reported that the toilet was leaking as soon as we arrived, staff just left a towel on the floor around it. The service was dismal.

There’s a small courtyard pool, and filtered water by the front desk. My room was clean, spacious, and well equipped, with comfortable, modern bedding. The A/C cooled the room nicely in Merida’s climate. I enjoyed staying here.

Everything you need is close by, with shops, restaurants, and cafés nearby. The bed was good, and the room was exceptionally clean. I’ve never seen sheets so white. The hotel could use some renovation, though. The furniture wasn’t comfortable, the pool felt more decorative than useful, and the WiFi wasn’t great. Still, it was a good experience.

I booked 10 nights but left after 5, and didn’t get a refund for the extra nights. The place is cheap and well located for Centro, but I wouldn’t stay longer than one night. It was very loud, the maids started slamming doors early, and the doorman acted like a bouncer.
