Hampton Inn by Hilton Merida

A youth football team staying at the hotel kept me awake all night with loud music, noise, and banging on doors. The manager said I’d get a credit, but we never received it.

Really good stay. I’ll definitely come back.

We’ve had enough mediocre stays at Hampton Inns in Mexico that we’re going to avoid the chain and take our business to a better hotel, such as Marriott or Holiday Inns, Mexico. Breakfast was very poor, maybe 2/10, and wasn’t worth the time even though it was free. The milk for cereal was warm, coffee was cold, and the dining and buffet areas were ridiculously hot. There was little or no air conditioning, so we turned on an industrial cleaning fan just to get some cool air while eating. The TVs were blaring the whole time. The hallways were boiling too, with no air conditioning. Not a good way to save money. Our first night we had a cold shower. It seems the boiler couldn’t handle the number of guests or rooms, since warm water came back in the morning. Check-in took 15-20 minutes, after waiting in line. The worn hallway carpet needs replacing. There were a few good things: great location, very clean and modern room, safe parking, and it accepts pets for $550 mxp including tax.

The staff were polite and friendly, and the front desk and food service teams were helpful. Our air conditioning had a problem on the first night, but it was fixed for the second night and they provided a fan. The hotel is in a decent area, across from the convention center and a Costco. The rooms were very clean, though the hallway carpet was old. One odd thing: I had a do not disturb sign on the door, but a man tried to enter and asked if I needed room service. I don’t remember seeing men cleaning rooms, and it struck me as strange. The area is clean and feels safe at all hours, and Ubers are fast and affordable for getting around. I’d recommend it for travel.
