La Misión de Fray Diego Boutique Hotel

The central location made it easy for us to get around and explore. What I loved most was the history of Hotel Boutique La Misión de Fray Diego, which comes through in the walls and beautiful decor. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. It’s a great pick if you want a hotel with character and good service.

The door lock was broken, and we had a terrible time getting our passports and money out of the room safe. It took days, with staff giving us different excuses, so we were left without money for our holiday. The towels had poo stains, too. The TV remote didn’t work, and the replacement had low batteries. They wouldn’t give us fresh ones.

The third-floor rooms are pretty tired, and there are no refrigerators in them. The coffee was mediocre, and you can find better breakfasts elsewhere, though the restaurant is handy. We only learned at the end of our stay that you can pay to have a coffee maker in your room. For coffee, Cosmos or Manifesto are just around the corner. La Isabela mini-mart nearby has water, bread, apples, yogurt, and lunchmeat. The location is fantastic, and the courtyards and fountains are lovely. The Fray Diego cleaning and front desk staff were wonderful.

We really liked being just a few blocks from the main square, far enough away that the bars didn’t keep us up at night. The courtyard is beautiful, and reception were very helpful whenever we needed something. The barman, though, was pretty rude when we went for our welcome cocktails, and he was totally unwilling to accommodate my friend who doesn’t drink alcohol. I’d rather they skip the welcome drinks than have that unpleasant man serve them. The room looked nice, but the bed wasn’t very comfortable for what I’d expect from a 5-star hotel. The sheets felt hard and rough, and at first we only had sheets, no comforter. They brought blankets after we asked, but they smelled bad. My friend thought the room smelled moldy. There was AC, yet it still felt damp, and the bathroom door made an extremely loud noise when closing.
