The rooms do have air conditioning, and this place might work for a night’s sleep if you can’t find anything else. But it’s barely satisfactory, more like a 1.5-star room. The bathrooms are outdated, with doors that seem like cardboard. The pool photos are misleading: it’s small, more like a fountain, and right beside reception and the dining tables. It doesn’t feel very usable unless you’re an extrovert who doesn’t care what people think and has already had a few shots of tequila. For 10-15 euros more per person, you can find much better rooms with newer furniture and nicer bathrooms within 200-300 meters. If you can’t find anything else, this will have to do.

We booked a triple room. Two of the beds had solid, firm mattresses, but the third was old and I could feel every spring. That wasn’t even the biggest problem: the shower had extremely low water pressure, so rinsing shampoo from my hair and skin took ages. We found long hairs in the mattress, and there was no toilet paper or towels when we arrived, so we had to go back to reception. I think rooms should be checked before keys are handed out. There’s a pool, but we didn’t use it. Parking cost 120 pesos extra, bringing the total to 760 MXN. I’d rather spend another 500 MXN for much better accommodation in town. If you go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, you might encounter a cockroach.

This was my second stay at Hotel Mucuy, and I can see it’s a work in progress with improvements being made. The staff are professional and polite, but also personable. If you need something, just ask, and they’ll get it for you if they can. It’s affordable, clean, and convenient, with daily maid service. Breakfast options are very good. I ordered an omelette with fresh fruit, fresh orange juice, and coffee. Much of Centro is within a 15-minute walk, and buses, taxis, and Uber are nearby.

They didn’t clean our room during the three days we were there, take out the garbage, or ask whether we wanted fresh towels. The rooms were small and dirty, and the beds uncomfortable. The pool water looked green, so we assumed it wasn’t meant to be used. The TV didn’t work and only had an antenna, but I didn’t complain. With many hotels booked over Christmas and New Year, the fact that this one still had lots of rooms should’ve been a warning. Avoid this hotel unless you’re desperate.

The grounds felt secure and quiet, and the pool was kept up. It was a nice place to cool off in the heat before heading back out to look around and shop. The location is perfect, close to shopping and large markets, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We felt we got what we paid for, and the place has an interesting feel. We’d stay here again.
