Hotel Maria del Carmen Merida

The price was reasonable, and my room was cleaned every day. The staff I met were friendly and helpful, so I had a nice stay. I picked Hotel Maria Del Carmen mainly because of where it is, near the ADO station and the pickup spots for my excursions. That made getting around convenient.

For all the problems that came up, the staff took care of things right away, and the restaurant food was great. I stayed at Hotel Maria del Carmen for four nights. On arrival there were lots of “mosquitoes” in the room, and when I called downstairs they offered to spray that night or the next morning. The following day there was a plumbing problem, then a day later the room light went out. I called about each issue and they fixed them. Big thanks to Johnny at the hotel, who connected us with a tour company that included transportation without charging an arm and a leg.

After hours walking in the scorching sun, all I wanted was a shower, a place to lie down, and sleep. The bed was clean and comfortable, and the room itself was tidy. The air conditioner worked well until it started leaking and flooded the bathroom. For the reasonable price, you get free parking and cable, though there were only up to 8 channels. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the pool is open from 07:00 to 22:00 hrs. I came to see as many places as I could, so I can't complain.

We chose the hotel for its location and price, and the pool area was nice. The rooms are old, though, and nothing else about the hotel stands out. An old elevator makes a horrible noise whenever it moves, so from 7am to 10pm it was hard to relax in the room. They switch it off at 10pm, but we still couldn't sleep well. Service was okay, though the staff didn't seem very happy, and they'd stop being nice unless you tipped well whenever they did something for you. It's an okay cheap option, but if you can spend a little more, I'd choose somewhere else. We won't return.
