We loved being able to walk into town or call an Uber, depending on how we felt. The route is safe, flat, and relaxing, with great restaurants, shops, and nightlife along the way. Dave and Patrick have lived in Mérida for years, so they had answers to all our many questions and also offer tours to nearby sights. We got to swim in the healing, purifying Cenotes, see the Day of the Dead celebrations in the main square, and take a beautiful boat ride through the mangroves, where we spotted flamingos, a crocodile, and other wildlife. We also swam in the turquoise water at Celestún and toured the palatial Montejo 495, Casa Museo. Back at Ochenta y Dos, the peaceful setting and the water feature just beyond our French doors made it easy to sleep like a baby. The bed was very comfortable. Dave and Patrick’s gourmet breakfasts were delicious, too. And we got the warmest welcome from Dave, Patrick, and the “M’s” (pups) when we arrived. Such a great mix of adventure and time to recharge.

The shower garden is lovely, and our room was nice. Breakfast was tasty every day, and the hosts made the place feel like a calm little oasis. They also offer wine, cocktails, and massages, and I tried all of them. Money well spent. There are pets on the property. I have a dog and didn’t mind, but I can see how they might bother someone else.

We felt like we were visiting friends by the time we left. The hosts are a big part of what makes Ochenta y Dos special. Dave and Patrick, thank you. We’re already looking forward to coming back. The tour they planned just for us was a highlight, with a great mix of history, a beautiful hacienda, and a cenote swim we won’t forget. Breakfast was something we looked forward to each morning, both for the delicious food and the chance to talk with them and the other guests. They also gave us excellent food recommendations. Even before we arrived, Dave was sending helpful tips and arranged a car service from our hotel in Cancun, which made things easy. When we got there, he, Patrick, and their sweet pups welcomed us like old friends. Their beautiful home is in a real neighborhood, with great restaurants and everything we wanted to see just a short walk away.

Dave and Patrick took us on two excursions we’ll always remember, and we had a wonderful time meeting them and exploring the area. The pool was gorgeous, the breakfasts were amazing, and the rooms were really nice. We especially appreciated the high quality, comfortable beds. It was such a lovely place for our family to stay in Merida. Thank you so much.

A few suggestions from our stay: take a tour with Dave, who organized and led ours to Edzna and Campeche. Get a massage from Cesar, who was wonderful, and make time for the pool and steam room. The hosts also gave us spot-on ideas for food and things to do. Before you leave, pick up one of Dave’s signed books. He can tell you about the project he’s working on now. And don’t skip breakfast. The food was delicious, and sitting around the dining table meant good conversation and laughter with the other guests. My wife and I spent three nights here at the end of our time in the Yucatan, and it was a lovely note to finish on. The place itself is wonderful, from the comfortable bed to the decor. But the best part was Dave, Pat, and their four dogs. They made us feel at home almost immediately, and leaving felt like saying goodbye to old friends. That’s what a B&B should be.
