Hotel Zar Mérida

Having a place to leave the car while we rested was the reason we picked this hotel. The hygiene and attentive service stood out, and the maid was always friendly and willing to make the room comfortable. It’s on one of the city’s main arteries, and the rate includes breakfast, though we preferred nearby local businesses for our morning meal and recommend them. We mainly used the hotel for sleeping while spending the day exploring the city’s history and nearby archaeological and natural wonders. It’s a typical city hotel, and I’d rate the quality 7/10 for its category, but I recommend it.

April 28, 2018. The rooms were clean and excellent, and I liked the white and red colors. The bathroom and separate shower stall were nice. We did notice there was no hot water, and the parking lot is small, with cars ending up on the sidewalk. The location was good, though.

A clean place with good value, especially compared with US prices. Sanitizing and masking were followed, pets are welcome, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. WiFi and cable TV were available. The included 'American Breakfast' was scrambled eggs, juice, and something that looked like mashed potatoes or grits. I didn’t try it. No frills, just clean and good value.

The beds were hard, and the pillows smelled really bad. The front desk staff didn’t seem professional. I also had to collect and return the TV and cable remotes at the desk, then sign a form agreeing to pay a huge amount if I didn’t bring them back. It has steps as well as an elevator, which is a plus.
