The room was clean, cozy, and felt homey, with lots of great amenities. Based on the reviews, we thought this would be a 4-5 star stay for us, but something really disappointing happened. Our CAD cash was taken from a zipped pouch hidden in our clothes. Maybe we shouldn’t have left it in the room, but that doesn’t excuse someone going through our belongings and stealing. We thought hiding it there, where no “outsider” should have access, was safer than carrying it around where it could be robbed. The room was cleaned just once, at our request, and we checked the pouch every day until the day we left, when we noticed the money was gone. We told the receptionist, who said housekeeping wore body cameras, but the housekeeper who cleaned our room that day happened not to be wearing one. Instead of resolving the issue, management offered three free nights on a future reservation. We’re unlikely to return to Mexico or this hotel, so that offer won’t be useful. Please be careful and lock up your valuables if you stay here. If you ask for room cleaning, take your important things with you.

Rooms get hot and stuffy with one person, and unbearable with two. The bed was just okay. Staff were slow and lazy, and nothing worked on the first try. After hearing that some people had things taken by cleaning staff, I wasn’t surprised. The professionalism here is zero. It feels like a 1 star hotel pretending to be 3 stars. Just don’t come.

I spent a whole month at Be LOCAL while figuring out whether I wanted to move to Mexico City permanently, and it was a great experience from the start. The staff made me feel welcome and comfortable, and they really go above and beyond. Be LOCAL looks just like the photos, modern, stylish, and spotless, and the rooms are cleaned every day. It was even more affordable than an Airbnb. Having a community kitchen, an on-site restaurant, and a co-working space made it a great home base. The team’s friendliness is what makes this place stand out from other hotels. Five stars, and I highly recommend it.
