The owner ignored me when I reported what happened, even though they’d been communicative earlier in my stay. I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it. On my last night, the watchman tried to open my room door twice in the early hours. I heard him walking up and down the stairs and couldn’t sleep. While I was lying awake, the handle slowly turned, then stopped. About 30 minutes later it happened again. I yelled for him to get away from my door, and he said, “Sorry, I thought you left.” It wasn’t even 6 a.m. I was terrified. Very sketchy behavior at this hotel, especially if you’re a solo female traveler.

The location was the one good thing about this place. Room #2 was tiny, hot and stuffy, and I spent the night sweating and tossing around, trying to sleep. The only window faced into the hotel, so there was no fresh air, and anyone walking past could see our bed, as if we were on display. I hated the hotel and wouldn’t stay there again even for free. If you want to enjoy your time in CDMX, look elsewhere for a place to stay.

The host was very friendly and helpful, and it’s a great area, with lots of cafes and restaurants and walking distance to the castle. The rooms were quiet, and for the price the place is excellent. Everything was very clean, including the modern bathrooms and rooms, and the shower worked great. Room 2 could use a dehumidifier, but it wasn’t bad at all. Highly recommend for the price.

My street-facing room did have some street noise, but it wasn’t too bad. The WiFi handled basic browsing, though it wasn’t good for streaming or Zoom calls. Casa Melgar is a great place for a few days, with a fantastic location and friendly staff. The room had everything I needed and was clean and organized, including bottled water and an espresso machine. The bathroom was a good size, stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and soap, and the water was hot.

The rooms are on the small side, enough for two people with one large suitcase. Still, it was a very pleasant stay, with a nice atmosphere. Right in the center of Condesa, with good restaurants and cafes nearby.
