The location is handy for the Centro Histórico. Palacio de Bellas artes is within walking distance, and you can take Madero street to the Zócalo. If you need to stay nearby, look into other hotels first. I'd avoid this one until things improve. The buffet breakfast was poorly staffed. There were no plates or silverware, the tables hadn't been cleaned, and one or two people can't manage that many buffet guests. The woman working there was doing her best. The room was simple, with a strange bathroom arrangement: shower and toilet on opposite sides, sink between them. There is basically no privacy while getting ready to shower. The beds were okay. We booked because the other nearby Marriott hotels had no rooms, and this one was inexpensive. You get what you pay for. The front desk promised to bring our bags to the room, then forgot. A couple of hours later I went to ask about them because they wouldn't answer the phone. They admitted they'd forgotten, so I carried the bags up myself.
After our international flight, it took three valuable hours to get settled. First they put us in room 301, where the internet didn't work. In 501, neither the AC nor the internet worked. We finally got room 902, with working internet, but the AC still didn't work. They gave us a portable unit that was noisy and barely cooled the room. All we wanted was a shower and some sleep. The bathroom water drained so slowly that we had to shower in a puddle. The staff tried their best to make us comfortable, but the failing infrastructure got in the way. We checked out the next morning and moved to another hotel. We had checked in for three nights the week before.
The complimentary breakfast was okay, but the room and service were nowhere near Marriott standard. I booked for two reasons, its location near the Zocalo and its place in the Marriott network. We stayed four nights over Christmas 2025. The room was small, probably 170 square feet, and many things looked worn, including the shower, nightstand, and cabinet. There were ants, and the hair dryer didn't work. When we asked for one, they couldn't provide it, so they moved us to another room with a working dryer. The biggest problem was the nighttime noise. My wife couldn't get a good night's sleep during our stay. We were really disappointed. The facilities and service felt like Motel 6 level.
The breakfast was the same slop every day, and there was no hot water for showers. The walls are paper thin, so you hear everything. It was obnoxiously loud. The front desk told me, "sorry the WiFi does not reach to your part of the floor on the 7th floor," so I had to pay $100us for data. I was here for a work trip, and my office paid for a 5pm late checkout. At 2pm, the front desk kept hounding me to leave and denied that I had the late checkout. I finally left for the airport because they wouldn't stop. On the way there, my office called the hotel, and they confirmed it was their mistake and I did have checkout at 5pm. Since the desk kept telling me to go even though my office paid for a key checkout, I had to wait at the airport for 10 hours. Do not stay here. I wish I could rate this "hotel" 0/5.
The location is nice, close to downtown's hubbub and Chinatown. Chinatown is tiny, but still fun for dinner. I got a top-floor room with a decent view and plenty of natural light. The front desk let me check out late at 3pm, which I was really grateful for since my flight wasn't until much later that evening. Solid stay.
