City Express Plus by Marriott Ciudad de México Reforma El Ángel

We loved the view of the square from our spacious king one bedroom, especially for NYE. That helped make up for the bathroom, which was awful and about Motel 6 quality. Marriott really needs to upgrade those bathrooms. Breakfast was just bleh, a continental spread with nothing to praise. If it hadn’t been NYE, we’d have chosen a higher end hotel.

The location is central and very good, and breakfast is basic. The hotel is functional, with simple, quite small rooms and little room for luggage, though there’s a safe and an iron. To me it’s no more than a 3+ star place, like Ibis or Holiday Inn hotels. Reception service and friendliness left a lot to be desired. I asked for an upgrade as a status customer, and got a tired smile before they ignored the request. The room looked out onto a construction site and courtyards and was very noisy. You can hear everything from the neighbors 🙄! Late checkout is at 2pm, just one hour beyond the regular time, so it’s not much of a benefit. Even worse, breakfast buffet ends at 9am already!

Getting around from here is great, and the staff are good. The rooms are small, though. Breakfast service could improve: the 6 to 9 rush leaves no space in the café. Parking can be tough, and traffic is bothersome.

My partner couldn’t sleep, the noise from other rooms carried so clearly. For this brand, I expected more. The property feels run down and needs renovations, and the pictures make it look much better than it is. It’s used like a motel, so there’s a lot of noise :) Don’t stay here.
