El Diplomatico Hotel

The front desk service was one-star, though the doormen were just fine. I needed a receipt, and the front desk staff promised several times to send it, but never did. It put me in a difficult spot with my employers. Most, though not all, of the front desk staff seemed quite annoyed whenever asked to do anything. The rooms are basic. The hard bed and flimsy construction deserve two stars, with unavoidable street noise coming through. That's how I landed on a two-star rating.

On April 3, I checked in and was told there were no suites, even though I'd made a confirmed suite reservation on February 18. The receptionist offered a standard room, which I accepted, and assigned me room R4. The bathroom smelled extremely unpleasant, and a medical bag that looked like an IV or intestinal lavage bag was hanging in the shower. It seemed to have been used for a procedure in the room. I took a photo straight away and reported it at the front desk. The same receptionist then said I could still have a suite, but would need to pay the price difference. I agreed and was assigned room 209. It hadn't been remodeled, and the air conditioning was so noisy I couldn't get a good night's sleep. The next day, I asked to change rooms, but the same staff member told me nothing was clean and I couldn't move. The stay was very unsatisfactory. I'm shocked by the front desk staff's lack of training and professionalism. They didn't apologize or offer a proper solution. I've stayed here numerous times and always received the best care and service before. In September 2024, my family and I stayed in two suites, and that stay was unbeatable. I sent an email to the reservations department and never got a response. Stay away from this hotel. We had to stay here for a few days after a fire displaced us. The rooms were huge, more like suites than standard hotel rooms, and the water pressure was great. The air conditioning worked fine, too. The price was good, and room service was great and reasonably priced. I had breakfast at the second-floor buffet. It was traditional Mexican breakfast, with eggs, chilaquiles, lots of fresh fruit, plus yogurt, cereal, coffee and tea. I chose the chamomile tea and it was great. For room service, we had steak with mash and veggies. I didn't love the mash, but with a bit of salsa, salt and pepper, it did the trick. The steak was great. At lunch, we ordered chicken tacos that came wrapped like taquitos, and they were amazing. I also ordered a club sandwich with chicken, turkey, lettuce and veggies, served with fries. There’s a restaurant next door and several local restaurants within a 2 min walk. Across the street is a huge, scenic green park with a big playground for kids. It made a lovely setting for a romantic or relaxing walk with my partner or friends. I'd definitely stay here again.

The room was huge and the WiFi connection was great. The restaurant was clean and had good food. My only issue was that the vacuuming seemed a bit lax. The location is nice and central, with nearby restaurants, shops and a park easy to get to.
