Holiday Inn Express Mexico Basilica by IHG

The pillows were nice, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here, even for one night. Our room was mostly a dark box, with a bathroom window looking onto a shaft where we could hear people showering and talking. We asked for a fridge, but they only have them in suites. The front desk didn’t know we were meant to stay 32 nights. Guests and our DiDi drivers said the neighborhood was close to a very bad area.

We’ve stayed here many times. On January 1st and 2nd, we were in Room 205 and left behind a small bag of jewelry worth an estimated $1,500 to $2,000. I know it was our own fault, but it took about four calls before the front desk told me they didn’t have it. They kept saying they’d call me back, but never did, so I had to keep following up myself. It felt like the front desk only cares about customer service while you’re there. Once you’ve left, they don’t seem to care.

The rooms were clean and a decent size, but they were quite dark and had no windows. Breakfast was decent. The location is close to an unsafe area, and service was disappointing: staff couldn’t provide basic things like dishes or power adapters, and they forgot the breakfast box we’d ordered ahead when we checked out.

We slept almost as soon as we got into the exceptionally comfortable beds, which had just the right support. The rooms were spotless and had appreciated air conditioning, and the whole place felt quiet and peaceful. Staff were wonderful, attentive, and went out of their way to help. We also got complimentary transportation to the Basilica and enjoyed a complimentary breakfast that was exceptionally tasty. I’d recommend this place to anyone looking for a pleasant stay.
