Hostal CASA MX bellas artes

Cheap and very basic, maybe fine for one night, but I wouldn’t stay longer. Music blasts every morning after 8 and wakes up the whole hostel. On my first day I found unfamiliar hair on the bed and blanket, which was disappointing. There’s no proper indoor common room for chatting. The rooftop is the only spot for phone calls, but people smoke there a lot. Wi-Fi is mostly fine, though it drops in parts of the hallway. One roommate came back smelling strongly of marijuana and the odor filled the room.

Whenever I’m in Mexico City, I stay at Bellas Artes Hostal. The location is really good, everything is always clean, and the staff are very friendly. I feel comfortable there.

The location is the only good thing. The street is noisy, messy, and always full of garbage. Inside, there’s loud music and no quiet hours or smoking area, and management clearly doesn’t care. I saw the manager shouting at one of the cleaning ladies yesterday. This isn’t a coworking space. The employees seem to try their best, though. The rooms get stuffy at night and are hard to breathe in. You get just one bedsheet and no proper bed cover, and the beds are painfully hard. Sleeping on your side is basically impossible, if the music lets you sleep at all. Stay far away and don’t let this hostel ruin your time in Mexico City.

I’m giving it three stars because some guests, especially those from other countries, can be pretty angry and rude. It feels like there’s no sense of community when people buy lots of consumables and eat them in the rooms. The staff seem to do what they can to keep things peaceful, but some guests need to respect the rules instead of taking advantage of that politeness.
