Hotel Benedicta

I stayed on the fourth floor and had a balcony with a great city view. The neighborhood felt safe, even late at night, and the hotel is centrally located within walking distance of the American Embassy. There’s a cafe by the elevators and an Argentinian Steakhouse downstairs. I didn’t get to try it, but it’s nice to have that option without leaving the property. I was a little concerned when they handed me a traditional key at check-in, but the boutique hotel didn’t feel dated and was charming. I visited in November, so the lack of central air didn’t bother me. There was a fan in the room, which was a nice touch, though I wonder if it would be enough in summer. I’d stay here again.

The room itself was clean, and most of the front-line staff were really friendly. The hotel has a great location and a fun, quirky feel. But after we asked for seven nights, we were put on the first floor right above a loud club and couldn't sleep. The manager wouldn't move us. The second night was especially bad, though a night manager kindly moved us to the top floor, where the room was fine. Breakfast was included, but they said our “American breakfast” meant toast made from cheap sandwich bread, fruit, and coffee. On the third day it suddenly became a full breakfast, with no explanation. That same day, the manager told us we needed to understand the culture better.

The room attendants were wonderful, and the water was hot with great pressure. Rooms are basic and there's no AC, but I was there in late February, so the open windows and ceiling fan worked perfectly. Good location, too.

We stayed five nights, and I was glad to leave. The bathroom and walls were mouldy, with a strong damp, mouldy smell. The floors dip badly enough to feel like a safety concern, and I'm not old. The photos make the place look bright and cheerful. This hotel is so bad, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
