Izta 54 - Hostel

The room had what I needed, including a kitchenette, couch, and king size bed. It was modern and simple, right in the middle of trendy Condessa. The bathroom was on the small side, but that’s typical in a big city. My only issue was having to go downstairs after nobody answered either of my two calls to the front desk for a hairdryer and wine opener. Not a big deal, though it would’ve been nice to get an answer.

All of our things were stolen, so I’d say don’t book this place, even if you’re only hesitating. A Mac laptop, two passports, and thousands of dollars disappeared from the room’s private safe. The staff had helped us lock it, and as far as we know they were the only ones who knew what was inside. Later, we learned the staff had a master code for every safe. Management offered poor communication and little responsibility. They let us watch the security footage, where the only people seen entering the room were hotel staff. After that, the hotel wouldn’t speak with us directly and instead offered to put us in touch with their lawyers. Regardless of what happened with the alleged robbery, the rooms and service were below an acceptable standard. Food smells from the surrounding restaurant got into the rooms, it was extremely noisy, there was no elevator, and the rooms had no air conditioning. A little piece of hell. Keep safe, and DO NOT even pass there.

I’ve stayed at Izta 54 twice now, once for 4 days and before that for three weeks just before covid. Both times have been great. It has a safe, comfortable feel and definite bohemian vibes, with a friendly face always at the door. The location is gorgeous. There was some construction noise during the day, but it didn’t bother us. 10/10 in my opinion.

I’ve stayed here twice, and both times groups came back late and partied on the roof, waking the rest of us and ruining a night’s sleep. There’s no sound insulation and no policy to manage late night use of the top floor. The location is great, but the hotel itself is basic, with basic rooms and no real service.
