RMS Hostal - Roma

The location was good, but it wasn’t worth the trouble. We booked a private room for three nights through hostel world, then ended up cancelling two nights. They couldn’t find our booking or provide the right room, so my partner and I were given a single bed instead of a double. We could have managed if we were only paying for a single, but they charged more than the original hostel world rate anyway, despite downgrading our room. When I tried to explain the booking price and negotiate, they said we could cancel if we weren’t happy. It was late and we had nowhere else to go, so we had to stay and pay extra. The moldy room wasn’t even the worst part. We ignored the reviews and regret it. I’ve stayed in hostels all over the world, and this was my worst experience. I would NOT recommend it.

The kitchen was unpleasantly small, and there were no hooks in the bathroom. They also didn’t offer luggage storage. The staff weren’t especially polite.

The nice reception staff were the only saving grace. Now I understand the low price: the bed was uncomfortable, there was mould, and power sockets had been ripped off the walls. There were only three male bathrooms, each with a toilet and shower, so I had to wait 30 minutes while people showered just to use the toilet. Make this a last resort.

The staff were somewhat okay, but the rooms were hot and the bathrooms poorly maintained. The photos they advertise don't reflect how the place looks now.
