The rooms get a little dark after sunset, so bring a torch or a plug-in light. Still, it’s a beautiful, colorful, laid-back hostel in a great location and good value for money. Tonya and her sister are welcoming while giving you space, and the breakfasts were the best we’ve had at a hostel in Mexico: fresh fruit with granola and yoghurt, plus tea, coffee, and fresh juice each morning. We’d definitely stay again!

The owners were friendly, and although we’d booked the wrong date, the day before we arrived, they didn’t charge us even though they could have. But the stay itself was rough. There were only two other backpackers, so there wasn’t much atmosphere, and some local families or relatives of the owner seemed to live there. The two bathrooms hadn’t been cleaned during our first 24 hours. The worst part was the noise. The place isn’t soundproof, and I slept about three hours a night because people talked in the common room in the middle of the night. An exceptionally loud doorbell rang every hour all night and woke me every time.

For a low-priced hostel, it offers good basic services, including a kitchen with the appliances you need to cook, and both smoking and non-smoking rooms. The location is good, and the hostesses are friendly and efficient. There’s only one bathroom shared by everyone, even guests in the private room, and there’s no parking.

The price seemed good, and at first I thought the place was cool. But after a night there with my girlfriend, I woke up with an allergic reaction from bed bug bites, nine hives on my body. We were in room 8. It wasn’t worth getting bitten.

I spent nine days at the hostel while dealing with some health problems, and Feliciano, the administrator, and his family treated me like one of their own. The place was clean, with two Wi-Fi networks in case one got busy. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking whatever you wanted. It’s also well located, near the market and two vegan restaurants.
