I spent a month at Azul Cielo and had a great time. The common areas are beautiful, there’s greenery everywhere, guitars around, and a terrace bar for hanging out. The place has a really nice vibe, and it’s about 15 minutes from Centro, the bouldering gym, and the calistenics gym, which suited me since I like staying active. Angel and Danyel were great to meet. Angel runs Salsa classes and knows loads about local activities and salsa events. Everyone on staff was friendly. The rooms were lovely, especially the private rooms I stayed in sometimes. Breakfast was nice, and there are activities throughout the week, like making tlayudas, tasting mezcal, making mole, and morning yoga. I’d especially recommend the mezcal tasting. Just ask reception if you want information. Thanks for a great stay, I’ll definitely be back.

I’d planned a quick two-day, one-night stop in Oaxaca during a whirlwind trip around Mexico, and booked myself a suite at this cozy hostel in the Centro district. I arrived a little early, but Natanael at the front desk was welcoming, spoke excellent English, got me checked in, and showed me around the beautiful two-story place. My private suite on the second floor looked over the courtyard. It was spacious and air-conditioned, with an outdoor patio, a huge shower, a flatscreen TV, and coffee service. There’s also a shared open kitchen, and breakfast is served free each day. I’d meant to head out early for the usual tourist activities, but I was so comfortable I cancelled my morning plans and slept in. Highly recommended. If you’re on a budget and don’t mind shared bunks, the amenities are incredible and the service feels five-star for a very low price.

I’d planned on two nights in a private room, but after one night I left because the experience was so unpleasant. What I received didn’t match the online description. Only three of their private rooms have AC, so check before booking. The first receptionist told us that was our assigned room and there were no other units with AC. My friend asked for the manager, who was very nice and helpful. He offered to move us to an air-conditioned room, but said we’d need to pay the difference, which contradicted what the receptionist had told us. I also value the community side of staying in hostels, but didn’t find that helpfulness here. I asked the receptionist for directions and information about Hierve el Agua, and she said she didn’t know, even though the front desk had information about private tours there. I probably wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The dorms at Azul Cielo were roomy and really comfortable, with nice beds and a great atmosphere. Breakfast stood out too, it’s homemade Oaxacan food, delicious and different each day. One of the best hostels I’ve stayed in. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting Oaxaca!

This was my favorite hostel of my whole trip in Mexico. The place is simple but really clean and quiet, and the people I met, including the staff, were all friendly and genuine. I’d especially recommend it to solo travelers.
