Hotel La Casona del Llano

The rooms are basic but clean, spacious, and comfortable, and the hotel is a great fit for service, food, location, and budget. I’m writing because there’s so much beyond the room. Oaxaca is a magical city with lots to enjoy all day, every day, so why spend on an expensive hotel when you hardly spend any time in it? You can also get a good meal and a drink on the terrace overlooking the park. Great place to stay.

The landscaping was very pretty, at least. The picture looking out from our window says it all.

Last time I visited this café, I ordered hot chocolate and the waiter brought four little breads with jam and butter. They were the most delicious I’ve ever had in Mexico, and that surprise really stuck with me. Today I ordered the same drink, but got only the hot chocolate. When I asked if anything else was coming, the waiter pointed me to the menu. I mentioned the breads from before, and he explained they were specifically for breakfast. He kindly brought me a small portion of bread and butter anyway. There was a miscommunication, but I appreciate the effort to make it right. I hope next time I get those scrumptious breads again!

I won’t be coming back. I arrived before the dinner rush, with only one other table occupied and one waiter, but service was still very slow. I tried the restaurant after finding the lobby dilapidated and the staff seeming bored. The Guacamole Salad Plate was just butter lettuce leaves, a huge pile of soft shredded cheese, rubbery like mozzarella, and a whole sliced avocado, with no dressing. The complimentary chips and salsa were the only tasty part. I took 2/3rd of the salad to go and gave it to a beggar.
